English for Lawyers

About

Hi, I'm Myriam.

I'm a Canadian lawyer with over 12 years of experience in commercial litigation and international arbitration. I am currently completing certificates in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (with specializations in teaching Business English and IELTS/TOEFL test preparation) and Translation (Spanish to English), both from the University of Toronto. I have many years of experience teaching English, legal writing and advocacy skills to lawyers and other professionals from around the world.

I am passionate about languages. Helping lawyers from around the world interact more effectively in English allows me to combine my passions for the law, language and teaching. I speak English and French natively, Spanish and Portuguese fluently, and have some knowledge of Italian, German and Mandarin.

 I am a member of the European Legal English Teachers' Association (EULETA).

Services

I provide a wide variety of English-language consulting and legal English training services to lawyers, judges, law students, law firms, in-house legal departments, universities and professional organizations, which are carefully tailored and customized to the client’s particular needs.

These services can be delivered entirely in English, or bilingually in Spanish/English, Portuguese/English, French/English or Italian/English.

My consulting engagements are highly customizable, depending on the client's individual needs. They include:

  • One-on-one tailored consulting with lawyers, judges, law students or other professionals on written or oral English language and advocacy skills;
  • Group seminars or workshops delivered to law firms, in-house legal departments, universities or professional organizations;
  • Ongoing engagements providing coaching on written materials on an “as-needed” basis;
  • Revising or writing law firm website content, marketing materials or LinkedIn profiles;
  • Revising documents, such as memoranda, written arguments, contracts, letters and emails (as long as these documents do not reveal confidential or privileged information); and
  • Helping clients prepare for English-language proficiency tests such as the IELTS, TOEFL and TOLES.
